Russia’s wideband Internet market up 3.5% to 32.6 bln rbl Apr-Jun

MOSCOW, Aug 3 (PRIME) -- The household segment of Russia’s wideband Internet market increased 3.5% on the year to 32.6 billion rubles in April-June, research company TMT Consulting said in a note late on Wednesday

The number of subscribers rose 4.2% on the year and 0.6% on the quarter to 31.8 million households. Service penetration grew to 57% from 55% in the same period on 2016. Average revenue per user (APRU) totaled 342 rubles, almost flat on the year.

The structure of the domestic wideband Internet market remained unchanged with top 5 providers covering 68% subscribers in Russia and 65% in Moscow.

State-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom ranked number one with the client base rising 4.7% on the year to 11.76 million households and 46% new connections in the period.

Internet and pay TV provider ER-Telecom Holding, working as Dom.ru, and mobile operator MTS held the second and the third positions. Their client bases expanded 16.8% on the year to 3.318 million subscribers and 7% to 2.909 million users, respectively.

Moscow City Telephone Company (MGTS), a fixed line unit of mobile operator MTS, was the leader of the Moscow market with 1.376 million clients, a rise of 5.9% on the year.
